What is counseling?
Counseling is advice or guidance given by an expert or trained professional in a particular field to help the clients to choose a better option that is both beneficial and desired by them.
They do not instruct rather they describe different career options available and ways to achieve them, it is just advice or guidance from the expert and it is ultimately the individual’s part or responsibility to choose a path and work for it in the best possible outcome.
In a few cases, the counselors provide personal assistance depending upon the situation. There are different types of counseling available. Each type may be required in different phases or situations in life.
What is career counseling?
Career counseling is a career development process where the counselor guides the students or professionals to their proper career path based on their skills, interest, and cognitive test results.
Counselors assist their clients to manage, taking control, beginning, and recovering their way to a successful career. It covers a wide range of professional interests that prepare professionals to face career-related issues at any point in their lives.
Career counselors inform their clients what are the skills or jobs that are in demand and that are expected to be highly demanding or fast-growing fields in the future based on their interests, knowledge, skills, etc.
This helps the student to understand one’s own ability, interest, risk-taking potential, financial requirements, etc by self-assessment through expert information.
It helps the individual in improving the skills required and locating resources for achieving the goal. It helps the individual to plan one’s future so that, achieving the goal becomes easier with a clear plan.
The expert describes the current problems and expected problems in achieving the goal and he may also direct how to overcome them in general or through specific tips.
This gives the individual confidence as he gets an overview of the path. The person gets a better clarity about the process to undergo to achieve his goal. The benefit of career counseling will be at its best for students during 10th exams and 12th exams.
What is university counseling?
University counseling is a narrow term than career counseling. It addresses only the courses offered by that particular university that for open for admission. The emphasis is on eligibility criteria like minimum percentage of marks or necessary exams that should have to be cleared like MAT, CAAT, etc.
It focuses on the specific course selection for a student’s higher education.
This is more beneficial to the university as it reduces the admission process time. This also helps students from discontinuing their course before completion which results in a loss of time money and energy for both the student and the university. It provides better information about the course and the assistance like campus interviews or scholarship or placement assistance etc.
This information helps students in choosing the right university as per the requirements, expectations, and convenience of the students so that the students can choose the right university and course at ease.
